About Us

James Nott is a 37-year-old arable farmer from Gestingthorpe, Halstead, Essex. He is supported by his wife Debbie and two daughters Harriet and Lucinda.

Roger Bedson is a 39-year-old chartered surveyor and auctioneer and partner with Hinson Parry in Lichfield, Staffordshire. His support team is wife Kate and two sons William and Edward.

They met at Reading University and have been causing trouble ever since.

The Slow Way Down came about after James’ brother Edward died of a cancerous tumour in 2002. James, who runs an arable farming business near Halstead in Essex, was impressed with the care Edward received during his illness and determined to raise money for Cancer Research UK. He turned to Roger join him on the long, slow descent from Scotland to Cornwall – and the rest is geography.

“Edward faced his cancer with extreme courage.  We want to do this fundraising trip as a tribute to my brother, and to the medical team who supported him through his 4 year illness” says James.
